The Library provides an extensive photographic and digital reproduction service. The services available range from traditional fibre base archival prints through to large format digital imaging both in black and white and colour. This service is available both from the Library’s own collections and, when requested, from Library users’ own material.

Digital Images

Digital images are normally supplied in TIFF format and are scanned at 300dpi unless otherwise requested. All scanning includes basic colour and tonal correction only.

High quality prints

High quality prints are supplied on medium weight resin coated glossy paper (R/C) with white borders, unless otherwise requested. Where maximum archival quality is required, prints can be made on fibre-base paper (F/B Paper).

Colour prints

For inkjet prints the pigmented inks and special printing media used make these prints as archivally stable as traditional colour photographic prints. Inkjet prints are printed on glossy, pearl or 300gm fine art paper; the reprographic unit will select the most appropriate medium unless otherwise requested.

Microfilm Scanning

The Library offers a low resolution, black and white scanning from microfilm service, which is suitable for research purposes only. This service can be provided by email or on CD.

How to order

For details of how to order, please see our how to order page.

Where prints are required to an exact scale or size this must be clearly stated on the application form, along with any other special instructions.

Reproductions supplied by the Library must not be reproduced without obtaining, in writing, the relevant permission from the Library: see publication rights.
