Enwogion Cymru: a biographical dictionary of eminent Welshmen : from the earliest times to the present, and including every name connected with the ancient history of Wales

Robert Williams was a cleric, Celtic scholar and antiquarian. In 1831 the Cymmrodorion Society conducted a literary competition where competitors were to compile a series of biographical sketches of the most famous Welshmen since the Protestant Reformation. The winner was Robert Williams and the Cymmrodorion society arranged for his work to be translated into Welsh, which was published under the title ‘Enwogion Cymru'. Later additions were made to the English original, then published in Llandovery as ‘Enwogion Cymru: A Biographical Dictionary of Eminent Welshmen’ (1852).
