Madam Wen: Rhamant

W. D. Owen was a novelist, mostly known for his tale ‘Madam Wen’, which first appeared in ‘Y Genedl Gymreig’, a radical weekly. His writing was remarkably expressive and this popular romance was set in Anglesey in the eighteenth century. The exciting tale tells the story of a female heroine, not dissimilar to the character of Robin Hood. Its historic root is unclear, yet it is said to be based on real life characters that lived in the area.
