Project Outline:
This project used ideas around space, place and landscape to investigate the work of Kyffin Williams; his relationship with the National Library of Wales and the artist’s position within the canon of Welsh art history. This inquiry informed the development of a prototype digital resource to display the digitised Sir Kyffin Williams Bequest Collection of the National Library of Wales. In doing so, the project addressed the restrictions of using digitally reproduced art works for research and to use digitally-specific methods to interpret visual culture. Over the course of the project, Lloyd Roderick presented his research on art collections of the National Library at conferences including the Art Libraries Society Annual Conference (Cardiff, 2015); Yale Center for British Art Wales – Ial – Yale Symposium, 2014); Global iSchool at International Conference on Theories & Practices of Digital Libraries (Valletta, 2013); Computers & History of Art Annual Conference (London, 2012), as well as public talks at the Drwm in the National Library of Wales.
Thesis: Kyffin Williams Online: presenting and interpreting art in a digital context
