The project team at the National Library of Wales have used their best endeavours to discover the copyright owners of items in the framed works collection.
This process began by contacting the Welsh Arts Council, The National Museum and Gallery of Wales, The Royal Cambrian Academy, and using the excellent resources available at the National Library of Wales.
The Internet was accessed to check artists' birth and death dates. Most useful was the Getty Vocabulary Program, Union List of Artists Names that provided considerable information.
The majority of the works of art which appear in the catalogue are owned by the National Library of Wales, however there are a few exceptions: pictures that are on long loan to the institution, termed "on deposit", remain the property of the depositor. These pictures, where permission has been given, are available; enquirers relating to these works or collections should be directed to the Enquiries Service.
Wherever possible copyright owners have given their permission. There are several instances where the Library has been unable to either discover the copyright owner or the picture is as yet unattributed. In these instances it was decided to include the images but to request owners or anyone with information about these pictures to contact the Library. Copyright owners may either print out the copyright form that is available as a pdf document, and send it to the Library or discuss the situation with a member of staff.
Should copyright owners wish their material to be removed the Library will undertake to accomplish that at the first opportunity. Enquirers will still have access to the catalogue record but links to the associated digitised image will be deleted.
Every effort has been made to include correct data; if a reader sees anything which they believe should be changed they should contact ffraworks(at)llgc.org.uk.
