Civil registration of births, marriages and deaths in Wales and England began on 1st of July 1837. The indexes are arranged alphabetically by surname within four quarters each year - March, June, September and December. From the index make a note of the registration district, quarter, year, volume and page number in order to purchase a copy of the certificate.

Applications for certificates should be made to the local registrar or the General Register office in Southport. Please remember the National Library of Wales DOES NOT hold or issue certificates.
