How to obtain a Library Card

  • Anyone over 16 years of age may apply for a library card. Tickets are valid for a period of 3 years and give readers access to all our collections.
  • Please bear in mind that in order to gain a full library card you must bring with you 2 proofs of identity, one of them showing your current address.
  • Visitors under 16 years of age can apply to visit some areas of our Reading Room under certain restrictions.

Online registration

  • You can register online to start the process of becoming a reader before your visit. This will make it easier and quicker when you visit us in person.

  • You will receive your membership details which you can use straight away to order material from our Catalogue in advance of your visit.

  • Becoming an online member may also provide you with access to the Library's Subscriptions. For more details see the What can I access page

Renewing your Library Card

  • You can renew your full library card by visiting the Library.
  • Staff in Reception will update your details, take your photograph, and provide you with a new ticket. Please bring your old ticket with you, together with proof of your current address, if this has changed since your previous ticket was issued.
  • At present, you will have to register again when your online ticket expires, and receive a new ticket number.
