Newly catalogued historical books about cricket in the Library

With the county cricket season now in full flow and Sam Northeast of Glamorgan breaking the record for the highest individual score in a first class match at Lord's last month, it's timely for us to  to highlight some recently catalogued cricket related publications from within our historical hidden collections.

Several items that were not previously available are now live on our catalogue thanks to the diligent work of our cataloguers. The biggest find is a cricket match programme from 1921 for a game between Lancashire County Cricket Club and the Australian tourist side. The match took place at Old Trafford, Manchester and the programme was presented to the then Prince of Wales, later Edward VIII. It contains the autographs of the players in both squads (see photos). The signatures of famous names such as Warwick Armstrong of Australia and Johnny Tyldesley of Lancashire and England are included. For the record, Australia won the match comprehensively by an innings and 8 runs.
