Gregynog Gallery

28.10.23 – 23.3.24

A new exhibition celebrating Welsh contemporary art from the National Library of Wales’ collections.

What is contemporary art?  At its simplest, it is art created today. Galleries and art historians can define 'today' in many different ways, however in this exhibition we present a specially curated selection of artworks from 1945 to the present day.

As well as emerging from a specific period, contemporary art also reflects the issues and forces that shape our world. Through their work, these artists push the boundaries of artistic expression, encouraging us to question our ideas and to reconsider our worldview. With that in mind, we invite you to look at the works in this exhibition with curiosity and an open mind and find your own connection to them.

The Library is working in collaboration with our partners to develop a National Contemporary Art Gallery for Wales and this exhibition provides examples of works that will be available to lend to galleries across Wales.
