Leprosy is a neglected tropical disease which still occurs in more than 120 countries, with more than 200 000 new cases reported every year. This day is commemorated to increase the public awareness of leprosy or Hansen's disease.
This day is marked internationally to continue to raise awareness of cancer and to also encourage its detection, prevention and treatment.
World Day of Social Justice is an international day of awareness to promote social justice and tackle social inequality such as poverty, exclusion, gender inequality, unemployment, human rights ,sexual identity and biological prejudice and religious bigotry.
