Improvements well underway – All recommendations being implemented following PwC report into National Library

Tricia Carter, Vice President of the National Library of Wales, and Chair of the Governance Improvement Taskforce set up following a critical review of the Library by Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) in July, presented a progress report to the  Board of Trustees, which met today (Friday, September 18, 2015) in Aberystwyth.

The progress report showed that all 11 recommendations of the PwC Review, which were adopted by the Board, were well on the way to completion.

A special Taskforce was set up by the Board to implement the Library’s response to the Review, to deliver on the recommendations and put in place the steps necessary for improvement.
In presenting her report, Tricia Carter said:

“The Taskforce has overseen the introduction of a number of new policies and procedures, which are currently being discussed with Unions and staff, and which we hope will be adopted formally by the Library at the end of the agreed consultation period.”

In response to the report, Sir Deian Hopkin, President of the National Library of Wales, said:

“The considerable work already done by the Taskforce demonstrates clearly the Board’s total commitment in making the required improvements to governance and culture at the Library.

“ We have also asked them to look at not only the recommendations of the Review, but also to consider other important issues referred to by PwC, and suggest what further improvements can be done to the organisation of the National Library”.

Tricia Carter added:

“This Review comes at an important moment in the history of the National Library of Wales”.
“We will make every effort to ensure that continued improvement and the necessary changes needed in our governance and culture will deliver maximum public benefit.”

Today’s meeting of the Board of Trustees also discussed in detail the position of Chief Executive and Librarian which became vacant recently when Dr Aled Gruffydd Jones retired from his post. A further statement on this matter will be issued soon.
