Compliance status

This page details outstanding issues, and expected remediation dates.

What you can expect

You should expect to be able to do things such as:

  • Skip directly to content
  • Magnify the content to at least 300% without text spilling off the screen
  • Navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • Listen to most of the website using a screen reader

We're working towards meeting and maintaining Level AA standards for all our websites. We aim for AAA where possible.

Main website – www.library.wales

We launched our new website in October 2022. The site has been developed to WCAG 2.1 AAA (Triple A) standard.

There are two known issues:

  1. Many PDFs and Word documents don't meet accessibility standards. Issues include insufficient titles (success criterion 2.4.2 Page Titled), missing language tags (success criterion 3.1.1 Language of Page), tables that aren't marked up correctly (success criterion 1.3.1 Info and Relationships), and missing alternative text for images (success criterion 1.1.1 Non-text content). This affects screen reader users. Non-compliant PDFs and other documents are currently undergoing remediation work that will continue throughout 2024.
  2. We have identified a few isolated colour contrast issues at certain zoom levels, for example the “Preserving the Nation’s Memory” image and text. This affects sight-impaired users. This fails success criterion 1.4.3 (Contrast (Minimum)). This issue will be resolved by mid 2024.

Clip Cymru - clip.library.wales

This site was developed by a 3rd party to at least WCAG 2.1 AA standard, AAA where possible.

There are two issues which will be addressed in May 2024:

  1. The large black and white image has no alternative text, or decorative role. This affects sight-impaired users. This fails success criteria 1.1.1 (Non-text Content).
  2. The next/previous buttons on the three carousels have an incorrect role. This affects sight-impaired users. This fails success criterion 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value).

Third Party software

The Library uses some third-party systems to deliver functionality and services.

We do our best to ensure our implementations are accessibility compliant. However, we cannot at this time guarantee WCAG2.1 AA compliance as, in most cases, we are reliant on the third-party achieving compliance.

Not all third parties are obliged to publish their own statements.
