Are you unable to visit the National Library of Wales in person due to time constraints, location, or health issues? The Virtual Reading Room allows you to view the Library’s collections wherever you are in the world.

How does the Virtual Reading Room work?

We have a fixed camera on the ceiling that can share images of collections through a Teams meeting. It is suitable to view the smallest pocketbook to large maps and newspapers.

You will need a computer with suitable screen and internet connection to access a Teams meeting. We will ask you to create a Library account online

How do I book?

To book a session, go to the Library's enquiries page and fill in the online form. Enter your preferred date and time, along with your name and contact details and details of the collection you would like to view.

How much notice is required?

For us to assess the items are suitable for viewing we ask you to give at least a week’s notice. Items may not be suitable for viewing due to being too large, too fragile, having data protection or copyright restrictions or in an exhibition.

The times of the sessions

Sessions are available from Monday to Friday, between 9.00am and 4.00pm by prior arrangement, which is suitable for both parties. The session will be no longer than an hour. Further sessions can be booked if necessary.

Can I take photographs?

No, screen shots, photography and recording during the session will not be allowed.
