His archive and the ‘Philip Jones Griffiths Foundation for the Study of War’

It was Philip Jones Griffiths’ wish to ensure that his collection be housed in Wales and that The Philip Jones Griffiths Foundation for the Study of War be established in order to preserve his archive and to provide education to the public in the art and science of photography, in particular, promoting lectures and exhibitions and research opportunities, and by providing financial assistance, equipment or books to persons under 25 to assist them to become photographers.

The National Library of Wales received The Philip Jones Griffiths Archive in 2011 in consignments totalling over 250 boxes. These contained photographic prints, slides, cameras, books, magazines, newspaper cuttings, notebooks, ephemera and souvenirs. Work on organising the archive continues.
