Whilst composing at his desk, he also writes numerous letters to his friend, and fellow writer, Pamela Hansford Johnson, with whom he will have a relationship when he meets her in 1934. In these letters he writes about everything from the Gower to his broken nose, the books in his father’s study, his writing style and the use of imagery in his writing.
