What's available on Watch and Listen?

Watch and Listen brings together various audiovisual material from The National Library of Wales. The material includes:

  • Film and video: our film and video collections include some of the earliest examples of the medium from the late 19th century, through to early work by some of the greats of the 21st century.
  • Off-Air Collection: for over four decades the Screen and Sound Archive has been recording television programmes relating to Wales through special agreement with broadcasters. As well as the programmes, there is also a snapshot of the contemporary period through advertisements and idents.
  • Wales Broadcast Archive: material from the collections of BBC Cymru Wales, ITV Cymru Wales and S4C, from full programmes to raw unedited clips. These can offer a glimpse behind the curtain of the industry, as they often include count-in screens and tones and bars as well.
  • Radio programmes: there are a large number of radio programmes about and from Wales, its people, and its culture from stations across British broadcasters.

As more and more material is digitized the collections available through the Watch and Listen website will increase.

Watch and Listen was originally developed as part of the Wales Broadcast Archive project to provide a free online resource that provides access to the unique and historic audiovisual collections of The National Library of Wales.

Where can I access the audiovisual archives?

Watch and Listen

A large number of films, programmes and clips are available through the Watch and Listen website from anywhere where someone has an internet connection and a registered NLW account.
