Evan Evans, also known as Ieuan Glan Geirionydd was a decorated eisteddfodic poet. He was amongst some of the most influential and versatile Welsh poets of the nineteenth century. Apart from the classical forms, Ieuan wrote lyrics in the modern manner, and hymns. He belonged to the liberal school of Gwallter Mechain which attacked the classical metres and began to write ‘pryddestau’ and lyrics. This collection of his work was edited by Richard Parry (Gwalchmai) and printed in 1862; the publication also includes biographical notes on the poet.
