Background

Moving to live somewhere different has happened since the dawn of mankind. According to the most recent data available, the number of migrants in the world is estimated to be around 272 million individuals.

We all descend from migrants.

Scientists believe that the earliest humans developed from australopithecine ancestors about 3 million years ago. Human beings then migrated to all 4 corners of the Earth. Therefore, you will find out that migration is a part of your family story at some point!

According to the British Government, there are approximately 290,000 foreign-born residents living in Wales in 2024. These include individuals who were born outside the UK and are currently residing in Wales.

Roughly 1 in 10 people living in Wales were born outside the UK. Each person makes Wales a thriving and diverse place to live.

Over 100 languages are spoken in Wales! These languages are spoken by various immigrant communities and reflect the multicultural nature of Welsh society.
