In 1935, when he was 72 years old, Lloyd George launched his last great campaign in a meeting in Bangor. To deal with social and economic problems he wished to see the establishment of a National Development Council with representatives from industry, commerce, finance, workers and economic thinkers. The Council would be responsible for planning bold schemes in the field of housing, roads, land and in the reconstruction of depressed industries. His plans had no influence on the policies of the National Government, even though he remained a Member of Parliament until the end of 1944.
