The National Library of Wales' stand at the 2019 Conwy County National Eisteddfod will reflect the historical and cultural significance of the town of Llanrwst and the surrounding area.
The contributions of prominent local figures will be featured in a special exhibition on the stand; including well known writers such as Mary Vaughan Jones and T. Glynne Davies. It will also recount the colourful lives of individuals such as Gwilym Cowlyd and Huw T. Edwards and celebrate some of Llanrwst’s rich traditions.
A varied and exciting programme of events, suitable for families and adults, will be held at the National Library’s stall during the week of 2-10 August 2019. Among the fun activities will be cartoon making with Mumph, ballad rapping with Mr Formula, clog dancing, lectures, presentations and engagement workshops. The events program will give visitors the opportunity to become part of the Library family, be it a Friend of the NLW, a new user or volunteer.
The Library Shop will also be present on the stall and will launch a series of merchandise at the National Eisteddfod which coincide with one of the Library's most recent exhibitions - Record: Folk, Protest and Pop. Among the goods are bags, mugs and prints that include posters of gigs held in Wales between the 1960s and 1990s.
One of Conwy Valley’s sons, Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas AM, Welsh Government Minister for Culture, Tourism and Sport, will launch The National Library of Wales’ stall at the National Eisteddfod at 1pm on Saturday, 3 August. The Minister will also be joined by Rhodri Glyn Thomas, President of the National Library of Wales, and Pedr ap Llwyd, Chief Executive and Librarian.
Pedr ap Llwyd, Chief Executive and Librarian of the National Library of Wales said:
“We are pleased once again to be able to take the National Library to the Eisteddfod field and share with visitors the wealth of our collections and services. The Eisteddfod is the best opportunity we have to engage with our friends and stakeholders and it’s always a pleasure to receive useful feedback from those people we aim to serve as an institution.”
Welsh Government Deputy Minister for Culture, Tourism and Sport, Lord Elis-Thomas AM, added:
“Conwy County has a diverse and extremely interesting history and the stall will give people a glimpse of the wealth of information held at the National Library about the area. I would like to thank the Library for investing in its presence at the Conwy County National Eisteddfod, and for widening access to its collections and services in this way.”
