Ednyfed Hudson Davies presents an item about the old tradition of Mari Lwyd in Llangynwyd, Llynfi Valley, West Glamorgan. A group of men lead the Mari Lwyd mare to the door of the Old House Inn, Llangynwyd. Dafydd ’Dai’ Jenkins representing the groups starts to sing in battle with Cynwyd Evans who is on the inside of the tavern. The aim is for the outsiders to gain entry, thus gaining food and drink and celebrations, and also ensuring good luck to those inside. Following the ongoing battle, Dai Jenkins and the group are allowed in and Dai sets about entertaining the pubgoers. BBC Cymru Wales 04 /01/1974 Cywain
