Beibl i Bawb (A Bible for All)

Hengwrt, 01.10.21 – 01.04.22

An exciting exhibition to celebrate the four hundredth anniversary of the publication of the 1620 Bible, the standard text of the Bible in Welsh for nearly 400 years. This special exhibition, by visiting curator, Professor E. Wyn James, explores the tremendous significance and influence of the 1620 Bible over the centuries; religious, educational, social and linguistic. It also looks at the life and contribution of the great scholar, Dr John Davies, Mallwyd, editor-in-chief of the 1620 Bible, and includes items not only of major importance in Welsh history, but also of international significance, including translations of the Bible by Welsh people into other languages around the world, and the iconic Bible Mary Jones received from Thomas Charles of Bala. Mary Jones's story is inextricably linked with the establishment of the Bible Society in 1804, and this exhibition offers a unique opportunity to see a number of items closely associated with Mary Jones brought together for the first time ever.
